A Little Something for the New Year

Looking Back

Looking back
How swiftly flow days, weeks, months
Seems like yesterday

Looking Ahead

Days floating among,
Tomorrow’s murky mystery
Lived one by one

Benediction

Await diamond days
Being blessed, blessing others
True benediction

“The LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;
the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26

Today’s gift

Dark October Days

Fall days...
Gray
Dark, dreary
Damp, murky

Pervasive gloom
Yet…
In the midst of lurking gray,
dark, dreary, damp,
murky and pervasive gloom
There is still
Penetrating Light
Subtle splashes of color
Magical displays of wonder
Nudging us to remember
That delight and hope and love remain
Amid Autumn Days

How Does God Do This?

On our way for donuts
Out of the blue
Ben
He wonders “How does God do this?”
Butterflies, hummingbirds, flowers, rain…
They float, they hover, they bloom, it waters…
They delight, they amaze, they beautify, it sustains…
He wonders “How does God do this?
Ben
Out of the blue…
Forgets about donuts …
And in his wondering …
Praises the One who made them.

Today’s gift.

It was Quite a Day

i

Before the sunrise
Illuminating Lightning
Provided prelude

to

The stormy grumble
Rumbling, rolling, round sounding
Vibrating thunder

and

Morning ‘til evening
Pelting, puddling, darting
All the day long rain

ii

However,

Driving with Ben in the gray and gloom of the day, on our way for coffee and donuts, the windshield wipers barely kept up with the rain.  Out of nowhere Ben says,

How does God do it?
The birds and butterflies, so colorful!
And the ants, so tiny yet living things!
And the rain!
How does God do it?
Amazing

iii

Then there’s this

A small thing bravely
Smiling in spite of cold, rain
The Designer’s gift

And then there’s the Dahlia.

Inconspicuous
Growing in obscurity
Not outdoor-ready

iv

It was quite a day
Lightning, thunder, rain, flowers, Ben
Amazing! Today’s gift
