Fun in the snow! Today’s Gift!

Fun in the snow! Today’s Gift!
The afternoon settled in …
Cool, gray, empty
Looking for meaningful activity, pondering important things …
I settled in
A book at hand and camera at the ready…
Looking …
For the elusive hummingbird
And then
So, the question remains…
Hummingbirds hum because … why?
They’re happy… ?
And it’s hard to smile with that pointy beak
Echolocation…?
That’s a batty idea
Looking for a mate?
Hmmmm…
So why DO hummingbirds hum?
Anyone can tell you…
It’s because they don’t know the words!
Or maybe they do
“This is my Father’s world…
the birds their carols raise…
declaring their Maker’s praise.”
Today’s gift.
I got nuthin’ for you today. Nothing to report. Nothing profound, witty, picturesque or poetic. There have been no earth shaking events. There’s not much of anything on which to report. Unless you want to hear that I did some errands, paid some bills, pulled some weeds, planted some mums. Just did ordinary stuff today. Hmmm…
Today…
This day…
This is the day…
This is the day the Lord has made.
That’s something isn’t it? Indeed! Today’s gift.
Black juicy sweet orbs,
Delightful summer time treat
Seeds stuck in my teeth
It’s a rainy Saturday here and I’m shuffling through some old things that I’ve written long ago. Tucked away in an old folder, I came across a poem that I had typed out all nice and neat waaaaay back. Who knows when? Who knows why?
On the bottom of the page there was a note I had handwritten. “Who wrote this? Did I?” Apparently, there had been another rainy day when I’d done similar things and had similar thoughts about this particular poem.
I didn’t want to toss this out until I did some research, which of course meant, I Googled it. So, I searched by title. I searched by subject. I even directly quoted the whole poem. No hits. I found nothing that said that somebody else had written this or even thought about writing such a thing. So, I’m laying claim to it.
To be sure, there’s nothing notable, earthshaking or life changing about this little ditty. It’s just that I like it. It makes me smile. It’s what I needed, a little bit of nonsense to brighten a rainy Saturday.
Today’s gift.
